            Alviera has announced that premium "Christmas Camper" tickets are now selling at 25% off or P2,137.50 for adults and P1,313 for kids until November 9 only through online booking at travelfactor.org/jamboree. Christmas Jamboree is a one-of-a-kind holiday adventure on November 28-29 at the SandBox outdoor play park in Porac, Pampanga.

1.         What is “Christmas Jamboree”?

The Christmas Jamboree is a two-day Christmas-themed camp festival at the SandBox on November 28 and 29, Alviera’s outdoor version of celebrating this special season. From arts and crafts workshops and holiday games to live performances and traditional camping treats, as well as access to the SandBox amenities. 4.         How much are the packages and what are the inclusions?

Packages to the Alviera Christmas Jamboree come in Day Dasher and Christmas Camper variants.

5.         Do you have the same capacity for your campsite?

For Alviera Christmas Jamboree, we like to be able to accommodate more participants especially the families so we increased the capacity of our campsite by 50% from 200 to 300. This is also as a result of the very positive reception of our guests during the Brightscape.

6.         Will comfort amenities be available for the Christmas Campers?

Yes, similar to Brightscape, there will be ample showers and toilet facilities for exclusive use at the camp. Sanitation, environmental care and of course, safety and security are all primary in Alviera.

7.         Will the event grounds be open all night for during the Jamboree?

No. The evening ends after the last movie to be shown in our Starlight Cinema. SandBox will resume operating early the next day at 7am for Christmas Campers to enjoy our attractions and facilities exclusively until 10:00 AM.

8.         Can we cook or bring our own food to the campsite?

No, participants are not allowed to bring meals or cook food. There will be ample food concessionaires during the event and we also added a free grilled set dinner as well as hot tsokolate and biscochio for those availing of our Christmas Camper package.

9.         Where can people go in case of emergency/injuries?

As part of our standard safety procedures in Alviera, there will be standby security, ambulance as well as medical team composed of doctor and nurses to assist participants in case of emergency or untoward incidents.

10.       How can guests go to SandBox in Alviera?

From the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), take the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) Exit then get off at the Porac Exit. The Porac Exit is just a short drive from the SCTEX Exit. A minute or two after getting off the Porac Exit, you will see Alviera on your right where SandBox is located.

For the Christmas Jamboree, we will be offering packages that include roundtrip transfers from Manila.

11.       Who is your partner in designing the event?

A Mommy's Me Time

It’s true what they say. Once you become a parent, finding time for yourself is an everyday struggle. Make it twice as hard if you don’t have a yaya. Don’t get me wrong though; I love being around my child and I love taking care of her. You know, there was once a time when guilt finds its way to me the moment I go to the spa or have lunch out with my friends. I felt the world judging me.

What is “me time” anyway? I used to find it in little things, like that 5-minute shower when Allie was still an infant. Now that she’s a bit older, I get my “me time” fix while waiting for her class to end. I go to my barre3 class, or make paper flowers, or paint. Having this time for myself made me more patient and rejuvenated. I decided that everyone really needs a little “me time” every so often. I put guilt in the backseat and finally convinced myself that that “me time” is a means to an end.

We used to live in a two-bedroom condominium. Cleaning was a breeze. But now, cleaning all four floors we call home is not exactly my cup of tea. It takes up all my free time! For general cleaning, I had to hire professional cleaners who can do the work in a quarter of the time I can. But for my everyday cleaning routine, I try to get the best cleaning materials out there.

I tend to choose cleansers that are concentrated, efficient, effective, and easy-to-use. In the long run, I save money while keeping my home clean and fresh, fast. A favorite of mine is Pine-Sol. For a long time, I thought there was only one scent -- the original. Then I learned that there were more scents available. I was so happy! Lemon Fresh and Orange Energy are perfect for the kitchen to remove oil and grease while keeping it freshly scented. Sparkling Wave is great to use in bathrooms because it disinfects and has that ocean-y smell to it that is very invigorating. My favorite is Lavender Clean to keep my bedroom smelling like fields of lavender.

Because Pine-Sol is very effective, I only spend a sliver of time cleaning the morning mess of breakfast, giving me more “me time”.

Case in point – a couple of weeks ago, a couple of friends of mine asked if I wanted to join a celebration of “me time” by doing yoga and having lunch with friends courtesy of Pine-Sol. It started in the morning so I had to scramble making breakfast and cleaning the kitchen. It took me a few seconds to spray and wipe my kitchen counters. An eighth of a cup of Pine-Sol is all you need for half a gallon of water. I left the kitchen sparkling and fragrant.

Our morning yoga session was held at Sofit/LeSpa, Sofitel’s health and fitness center, and was facilitated by Joanne Santos.

Before it started, we shared our thoughts about “me time” with each other. Some said the usual – going to the salon, shopping, or getting mani-pedis. A number mentioned doing chores and going to the grocery. A couple responded they haven’t even heard of “me time”. Haha.

What a treat it was for us, mommies, because we all felt relaxed by the end of the class. We all needed that.

We were then ushered to a private lunch party, where we had the tastiest and healthiest dishes. We learned about calorie counting and detoxification from the ladies of Sofitel’s aesthetic center Vietura.

During lunch, Pine-Sol brand manager Renelle delos Santos shared with us some value tips that I find true.

We all had an amazing time learning about having a clean home and just chatting with each other. It was such a fun event that I lost track of time. I was among the last ones to leave. Haha.

Nevertheless, when I got home, I spent my additional “me time” painting my favorite scent.

Why I Love Maleficent

*Warning: Spoilers ahead

I was looking forward to watching Maleficent ever since I heard about it. I was especially excited about how they were planning to retell the Sleeping Beauty story in the eyes of Maleficent.

I've been a fan of Disney movies, and truth be told, Maleficent is one of the most bad ass villains out there. She put a curse on a baby girl for crying out loud.

If that's not enough, Angelina's cheekbones errr Angelina Jolie plays Maleficent. Seriously, I couldn't stop looking at them on the movie poster (and the movie).

I went with my family and a couple of my titas to watch the movie up in Rockwell, courtesy of PLDT Home DSL.

Needless to say, I love the movie! I'd watch it again and again and again. It scraps the boy-meets-girl-and-falls-in-love-instantly premise, but hangs on to the happy ever after ending. The story revolved around love, betrayal, revenge and remorse. Maleficent finds love in Stefan. Stefan betrays her to be king. Maleficent puts a curse on Stefan's daughter Aurora. Stefan goes crazy and sends Aurora to the woods in the care of three silly fairies. Maleficent secretly looks after the girl. Maleficent wishes the curse to be broken and fails. Aurora pricks her finger and sleeps. Prince comes along and kisses her; nothing happens. Maleficent is sorry and kisses her forehead. Aurora wakes up.

This strong maternal love shown between Princess Aurora and Maleficent turned around the villainous idea of Maleficent into the hero that she really is. It focused on motherly love and that you can find true motherly love in the least likely of places.

This is why I think Maleficent makes a great family movie.

It was Allie's second time to watch inside a movie theater, and her first time to watch an entire movie without asking for her tablet. Yeah, we bring her own tablet and a pair of headphones as backup entertainment. It has some of her favorite cartoons and kiddie apps in it. Daddy E helped install these for Allie back at home with a PLDT Home DSL connection I kid you not. :) It even has Skype in it so when Daddy is in the office, Allie can talk to him on video.

It's little things like these that help us connect with each other as a family. Yes, just like the PLDT Home DSL TV commercial "Ask Diego". The commercial features a young, very techie family doing things together online to help each other out. Diego is the little boy with his own advice column, where his family helps answer. It Was a Sige Sabado Kind of Saturday

Allie and I love doing arts and crafts, so when I got a package, imagine my excitement when I saw what was inside. It was a Sige Sabado playbox from Breeze Philippines. There were all sorts of materials for various craft activities:

1. Tie dye kit 

2. Harlequin mask 

3. Raise a monggo plant 

4. Dinosaur egg bath soaps 

5. Popsicle names and pen holder 

6. Slime 

7. Animal balloon papier mache 

8. Chocolate drawing

I asked Allie what she wanted to do and she said she wanted to make the pen holder. I guess she was attracted to the colorful popsicle sticks and the stickers that came with it.

I started showing her how to do it by making a square base first, then stacking the sticks two at a time. She helped out by handling me the sticks I needed. Halfway through the project, she was the one putting the sticks together while I applied the glue.

When we finished the basic container, I gave her the stickers so she can decorate the pen holder. Well, if you can’t tell yet, stickers are her favorite so I let her go decorate the pen holder like crazy.

Don’t you think she did an awesome job? We can’t wait to do the next project. Maybe we’ll plant some monggo seeds next or maybe do the tie dye project. It will surely keep us busy before school starts. We love the Sige Sabado playbox. It really gave us more ways to spend some time together. Thanks Breeze Philippines!

The Baby Project That's Project Mom

Motherhood, motherhood, motherhood. It is by far the most fun and scariest thing in the world. It changes your life. Completely.

The moment I first realized my husband and I were pregnant, we entered the world of paranoia. It was full of what-ifs. I knew that there is so much information out there especially online and reading them all will just boost my paranoia so I didn't. I resorted to a book that I think is very helpful during pregnancy. It was a book by an American author and it's probably the most popular one out there.

When I saw that a couple of celebrity moms here in the Philippines were launching a mommy book, I got so excited. I know it's going to be a great book for mommies and mommies-to-be out there because it is written from the perspective of two awesome Filipino ladies, Bianca Araneta-Elizalde and Amanda Griffin-Jacob, and the book is based on their experiences and some topics were medically-backed too.

Well, I've been a mom to a beautiful little girl for 32 months already, and it has been a roller coaster ride of sorts. I know I'm kinda lucky that my daughter's healthy when I gave birth to her. The only scare I got was right after, when I (yes, me and not the baby) had tons of blood clots that seemed to never stop. But I had the most amazing OB in the world - that's you, Dr. Williams of Piedmont Hospital, and I knew I would be okay. Home life was never the same after that. If you've watched the Coke Life commercial, you'll know what I'm talking about. It's all about the normal mess, the constant running, everything.

Don't get me wrong, I love everything about motherhood -- especially the normal mess. It reminds me of my daughter and how much fun she's having. Okay, fine, I'm probably just lazy to clean up after her only to find the house in the same condition five minutes after. Hahaha. Having this book by my side will definitely make my life a lot easier.

I went to the book launch of Project Mom last December. I saw a few mommy blogger friends there. It was a celebrity-filled event too, as you can imagine. I saw Tweetie De Leon-Gonzales and Christine Jacob among others. It was hosted by Marc Nelson (really drool-worthy by the way) and Lexi Schulze.

The book is all about how to make motherhood fun, easy and awesome. It covers everything you would like to know about being a mom - from pregnancy until after, even shedding the baby weight! The best part is, it is centered on the Filipino mom, so expect resources that can be found in the Philippines. So if you have a friend or relative who's about to give birth, this is the perfect gift for them.

Baby: Of Birth Announcements and Family Pictures

I recently posted about Design vs. Love's Baby Collection, and the prints are gorgeous. They reminded me of the time when I had some birth announcements made when Allie was born. Personally, I love giving old-fashioned cards instead of e-cards and emails. I love having to hold something tangible.

Allie was just a few days old when I took photos of her sleeping, smiling while sleeping, awake, and all other states of lying down. I chose a few for the birth announcement folded card.

It seemed just yesterday when I had this made. Time really flies. My baby is now two and a half, and she loves to run, crawl, hide under tables, go up the slide, climb the stairs, try to jump (she can't yet haha), and do everything to test your patience. People say that my little girl is like a little boy in terms of kalikutan. Don't get me wrong, I love watching her do and try things on her own. She's very active.

When she turned one, she was just trying to walk then and it was easy for us to take photos with her. This was taken during her birthday party by a professional photographer.

A few months after, we took a trip to Seattle, and there she enjoyed the grassy parts of Chittenden Locks. Family pictures were getting rarer by that time because she can walk and run alone. But my nephew took this nice shot of us.

Our most recent one is this one taken from a phone (hahaha), by my sister. Allie now knows how to smile when asked. Before, each smile was purely coincidental.

I really should have our family pictures taken more often. I only have a handful, and I think it's not going to be enough. Allie is growing up too fast, and I want to capture moments when we're all together.

We spent one afternoon at my parents' house, and we did not bring Allie's iPad that contained all her Phineas and Ferb, Barney and Disney Jr. videos. It was a great thing that we left it at home because I got to show and teach her some crafty stuff to do.

I decided to let her do a card made from stuff we found lying around: one A5 sheet of sketch pad, plain colored notepads, and glue.

I folded the sheet in two. Then sketched a heart in front. Using the notepad, we tore them into small squares. I had her glue the pink and peach squares down on the heart part. Then, we glued the purple squares around it.

She loved doing it! And I enjoyed teaching her. 

I told her to draw on the inside too.

Food: Early Bird Breakfast Club

My in-laws always try to celebrate each of our birthdays (every one up to the grandkids) by having dinner out together. Because we usually have around 10 people in our party, 16 if we're complete every time, we seldom find a restaurant that makes every one happy with the food and service. Every single time, we get bad food, bad service, and sometimes, even both. I shall not mention those restaurants here because I strive to keep this blog happy and positive. *smile*

We found a cute restaurant tucked in a little secret (or maybe not-so-secret anymore) spot at the Strip area of Global City a couple of weeks back. It's called Early Bird Breakfast Club. My husband and I love eating breakfast food any time of the day. We tried it one afternoon, and we loved the coziness and the food. We loved the place so much that we decided to have dinner here with the family on my birthday. I was secretly scared that bad service for a dinner party as big as ours might ruin it forever for me. But I really was cheering them on in my mind. They did not disappoint. I am so glad they broke our birthday dinner curse of bad service and bad food. I couldn't be happier.

The first thing I noticed is their interiors. This full wall mural on the right side when you come in. The teal wall color is adorned by a whimsy white outline illustration of birds and foliage. If you want a casual and intimate seating for two, choose the tables located on this side. The tables are a bit small if you are planning to order lots, but they are perfect for coffee and snacks. Don't you just love the colorful herringbone pattern on the chairs? They perfectly complement the wall.

Travel: Up on the Mountains

Holy Week in Manila means almost all places are closed, traffic is somewhat non-existent, and everyone is leaving the city. People usually leave on Holy Wednesday and come back Easter. Well, like any other family leaving in the metro -- except for a few who stayed behind because of makeup classes in school -- we went to my parents' farm, and decided to continue up north and get a feel of cooler air in the mountains of Baguio.

We avoided the toxic traffic Wednesday by leaving the day before and headed to Pangasinan for the night. It's always a treat when we go to the farm. We get to stay in the main house.

In the morning, we wake up to this amazing sight and sound of the koi pond.

We get to hang out in the lanai. Sometimes, we eat breakfast there too.

We went up to Baguio after breakfast. It took about 2 hours.

The Lion on the way up was jam-packed with people and cars. First-time visitors always stop here and take pictures.

It was lunchtime when we arrived. We stopped at O'mai Khan for a Mongolian style lunch. Incidentally, the restaurant's name is a play on an Ilocano word that means "Let's go!" (edited). I'll go into detail about this place in another post.

After a hearty meal, we headed on to Baguio Country Club to check in. While waiting, we bought some yummy raisin bread (theirs is better than those from Bag of Beans in Tagaytay). We stayed in one of their cottages, which is really a 3-bedroom vacation house. The location is amazing, but I really think the place needs renovation and maintenance if they want to keep a steady flow of clients. They should really upgrade the kitchen, the bathrooms, and the paint (omg the paint).

Check out the wall behind Allie. Not only is it peach (eek!), but it's terra fresco faux finished (double eek!). Okay, I'm sorry if I offended some people, but it really makes the whole house feel soo old and dingy. It was still an okay stay nonetheless. Anyway, Allie loves the rocking chair in the living room. She chose her own outfit in this photo, and she loves her Naraya bag so much, she doesn't let it out of her sight.

We have two chefs in the family so we didn't bring a cook with us. The next morning, they prepared vegetable frittata and French toast topped with yummy fresh strawberries and condensed milk.

We ordered uncut loaves of bread from the Baguio Country Club bakery, and our chefs just cut the bread thick like in the photo. French toasts this way is sooo much better.

For lunch, we headed over to Camp John Hay and had their lunch buffet. Allie enjoyed the grass area near the teeing area of the golf course. She loves the grass, the plants, the flowers, and the butterflies.

She picked a yellow flower and gave it to me. So sweet.
